An estimated 28,000 men died at Towton in a Yorkshire snowstorm during the Wars of the Roses, England's bloodiest single day of battle.

The Battle of Towton, fought on this same day, cleared Edward IV's path to the English throne after crushing the Lancastrian forces of Henry VI.
